Hi,
Here I would like to share my thoughts on studying in Denmark. Recently I started studies at ITU (BSc Data Science). I’m after my first week. Let’s start.
  • In Denmark going on a gap year is a standard. In a group of 40 people only three including me were straight out high school. Many people were on a 2 or 3 gap years. One Dane remarked it’s surprising that me and my Hungarian friend hadn’t gone for a gap year(s).
    • Poland: Gap year is what “losers” do. Denmark: Going straight to Uni is what “losers” do, as my colleague noted.
  • The Danish constantly embed alcohol in their activities. If you come from more conservative countries you will find it unbelievable.
  • Government and city vastly support LGBTQIA+. I talked with a student of theology. They told me Church in Denmark actually tries to relate to them and connect. Unimaginable in Poland.
  • Fastest way to get a dorm there: a) apply for a such, straight after you applied to uni. Even if you are not accepted then I suspect no consequences will appear. b) apply via study start list both on s.dk and kollegierneskontor.dk At earliest you can apply on 1st June. Study start list opens on 1st August c) apply to dorms which require application (not waiting list) via KBH, not general waiting list. My uni didn’t mention anything about study start list and many people didn’t know it had been existing.
  • If searching for a lease online, check if a person isn’t a scammer. Using stolen documents is common. If someone hesitates to make video call, unless it’s known place (like a dorm listed in KBH), abandon it. Check if there are multiple accounts on FB. Do not send document images without watermark. Scammers will get yours documents and will use them in further scams.
