On 26th of October in Gdańsk took place a presentation of three highlighted by Intel projects made for the AI4Youth Poland 2022 competition in front of Intel's CTO Greg Lavender and General Manager Bartosz Ciepluch.
Happily I had a pleasure that my project, Straighten Up, was one of these three and could present it.
In addition, Intel took us for a tour around their facilities which looked impressive to me.
Straighten Up is a browser extension which helps to maintain healthy posture by detecting it with use of #AI and comfortably blurring browser’s viewport when one’s slouching.
I decided to create the project because many of us spend considerable time sitting down which includes lots of slouching as well. Unfortunately frequent slouching not rarely affect our back and hormones’ levels badly. So I thought such a project could help.
I’m happy and I’m looking forward, hopefully, to creating something really useful and sending the polished project to Intel Global Impact next year.

What I’ve learnt?
- AI doesn’t only have to associate with mathematics and research as I used to think. Without fundamental expertise, but having good knowledge of tools like Tensorflow or even Teachable Machine one can still create helpful projects. I think my project supports this idea.
- When creating software consisting of several “technologies”, especially new or not previously mixed together, (like in case of this project MV3 and Teachable machine) it’s important to consider whether your app vision can be met by those technologies. I spent lots of time trying at putting capturing of webcam and processing in the background only to read in Chrome Documentation it’s simply not possible. It took me whole week and a half. I’m learning this again.
- A time buffer is important. I was surprised to learn that competition period was extended for one additional week but in fact it helped me to polish the project.
